At its Stade plant, Dow produces, among other things, methylene diphenyl isocyanate (MDI), a precursor for the production of polyurethanes, which are processed into construction foams, mattresses or insulation. An important starting material for the synthesis of MDI is aniline. The Stade plant obtains this from Dow‘s site in Böhlen. Delivery takes place in tank cars by rail.
