FLEXIM's Wet Flow Calibration Laboratory
Wet Flow Calibration Laboratory
Flexim Americas Corporation flow calibration laboratory is situated in the Edgewood, New York production space. It is a closed-loop, computer-controlled flow loop comprised of two measurement sections (2” and 6”). These precision pipes have been well characterized, equipped with Vortab and CSA Plate conditioning elements and feature well over 30 diameters of straight pipe run, assuring well-developed and symmetrical flow profile characteristics at the measurement points.
Each of the two loops is double-valve isolatable and supported by pairs of ultra-high precision electro-magnetic flow meters, annually calibrated to NIST standards by the manufacturer. The station’s computer program monitors their outputs and logs reference totals for each calibration run. In addition, the computer commands a VFD drive for closed-loop control of each flow rate being calibrated. The station is able to hold each rate to better than 0.1% of the rate commanded.
Based on the characteristics of the reference meters, it is calculated and empirically measured that the repeatability of the station is on the order of 0.25% approximately. Sources of error include residual flow profile asymmetries and the repeatability of the Yokogawa reference meters themselves. Between annual calibration intervals, the reference meters are run against each other to assure that defective calibrations do not slip through.
