High Precision on the High Seas

The Norwegian oil company Statoil is the largest oil producer on the continental coast. It operates amongst others the oil production platforms Gullfaks A, B and C in the Gullfaks field on the Norwegian coast.

Many flow measurements are necessary for the production on Gullfaks. FLUXUS ADM flowmeters are already used for the measurement of the injection water quantity. Now, Statoil has chosen FLEXIM once again and will equip 38 measuring points with FLUXUS ADM flowmeters for the balancing of the water quantity.

The oil that is extracted from the bore contains a lot of water from which it must be separated before it is stored. This happens in the separator. The water that is separated from the oil must be cleaned before it can be used or disposed of. First, it is conducted to a precipitator where the sand it contains can depose itself. It is here, in the so-called TORE units, that FLUXUS is used for the balancing of the water quantity. Afterward, the water is cleaned and can finally be either re-injected in the reservoir or be disposed of in the North Sea.
