The use of the clamp-on transit-time difference technology in measuring gas flow presents an special technological challenge, for the coupling efficiency of sonic energy from the inner pipe wall to the flowing gas is poor. The ultrasonic signals are practically swallowed up by the pipe. One thus has to contend with very low signal levels.

Adaptive Signal Processing

In order to maximise the signal to noise ratio, an optimized transmission process featuring multi-pulse excitation was developed. The versatile measurement algorithm automatically adapts to the varying application conditions. Thus disturbing factors such as beam dispersal and structure-borne pipe noise can be effectively compensated.
